Twins New Stadium Groundbreaking 8/2

The Minnesota Twins just announced that the official groundbreaking for the new downtown Minneapolis ballpark will be held Thursday, Aug. 2. In addition to the ceremony, they will have fun stuff like batting cages, alumni player autographs, food & beverages, a concert by Martin Zellar, and fireworks.
Watch the Twins take on the Royals at 12:10 pm at the Metrodome, and then go to the new ballpark site for the groundbreaking festivities. Admission to the groundbreaking events and ceremony is free.

Something very cool: the new ballpark will feature multiple "Knotholes" along the 5th Street side to allow fans to watch the action outside the park without buying a ticket. Brilliant.
Also cool: that old pic of Metropolitan Stadium, which was built on a farm in 1956 for the American Association Minneapolis Millers. The owner of the New York Giants (the parent team of the Millers) was quoted as saying the Met "is the finest minor league park in the country, and there are not two in the majors that are better."

p.s. I swear that recently meeting a Twins fan had nothing to do with my recent attention the team.
