THIS is the last mention of competitive eating

I know I said I would never again discuss Competitive Eating, but writers Mike Downey (Chicago Tribune story) and Richard Sandomir (NYTimes story) agree with my stance (more so Mike than Richard, it seems) and I’m low on material today so linking you to their stories makes sense. In case you don’t read Richard Sandomir’s Hideous Masters of Gluttony story (or don’t make it to the end), here’s the best part: …with ESPN’s deal now expired, Spike wants to take gluttony (not entirely a male pursuit, as the M.L.E. star Sonya Thomas shows) to its male-focused network as a companion to its Ultimate Fighting Championship franchise. Think that competitive eating + UFC is SG’s worst nightmare? You’re close. It’s second worst. Worst is still Reality + UFC.
