Takeru Kobayashi, the Japanese competitive eater who is a 6-time chamption of the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Competition, said he has suffered a jaw injury! I can't read Japanese but it's apparantly here: Kobayashi's Blog in a post called Occupational Hazard. In case it's not there, blame NY1 In the Papers. He has Jaw Arthritis. He cannot open his jaw. Or, as he puts it, "my jaw refused to fight any more.'' TFMJ thinks this is a big deal because Kobayashi has serious competition this year. Joey "Jaws" Chestnut of San Jose, CA broke Kobayashi's 53¾ record by eating 59½ dogs in a regional qualifier earlier this month. Could the Nathan’s Famous Mustard Yellow International Belt go to an American? The Japanese, un-fat as they are, have dominated the sport for many years. I guess we'll find out on the 4th of July.
