Rainout reminds SG of reason for being

Yankees Game 2 was postponed due to rain. And it's not too warm here either, especially not for two teams who were recently in Tampa. Anyway, this non-baseball freetime reminded me that SG is not only about food AT games but food AROUND games. Which means it's time for me to tell you about some great places to eat near Yankee Stadium. For the past many years, I've celebrated my birthday by going to a weekend day game with my parents, a sibling or two, and sometimes a boyfriend. After the game we pile into my dad's car and head to Arthur Avenue for dinner. My favorite place in this Little Italy used to be Roberto's. We mostly let the waiter choose our menu and drink cheap chianti. Then we walk down to Edigio's for pastry and espresso. Actually, my favorite place used to be Mario's, then it was Emilia, then it was Roberto's. Maybe I once had a Dominick's thing too, but I can't remember. We gave the 'new' Roberto's location a few chances before going back to Mario's. It's hard to resist all that pink. Everyone in my family likes to try everyone else's food so we're almost always eating 'family-style' whether we're in or out. The restaurants I mentioned are happy to serve individual plates, plates for the table, or both. Is evey meal perfect at any of these locactions? No. Will someone at a table near you be wearing a Yankee cap indoors? Possibly. Have I been to each one about a million times over the past, yikes, 30+ years? Yes. Are there other good restaurants and bakeries and delis and pizzerias in the neighborhood? Yes. Dominick's: 2335 Arthur Ave Edigio's Pastry: 622 E. 187th St Emilia's: 2331 Arthur Ave Mario's 2342 Arthur Ave Roberto's: 603 Crescent Want more information? Ask me.
