Tonight I had a quick chat with Chelsea Corrente, wife of David Corrente, a catcher for the Dunedin Blue Jays (Adv A- Blue Jays). Unfortunately Dunedin is on an 8-game losing streak, but Chelsea was nice enough to (a) travel to Lakeland to support her husband and (b) talk to me about food.
She told me that the guys almost never eat at a stadium. Sometimes, after the game, the Clubby will give them some pizza or "something good like Boston Market" but maybe they get charged a few dollars. When the team, or any players go out it's usually somewhere like Applebee's. Otherwise, everyone eats at home. Hey, we're talking $2500/month here.
And the wives? Well, the ones I saw had some sodas. And Chelsea's stadium favorite? Nachos, if anything.
Chelsea's favorite MiLB parks are Clearwater, because it has lots of activities and is entertaining, and Daytona, because it's a traditional, old-style stadium...and because the team gets put up on the water.
Thank you, Chelsea. Hopefully things will turn around for the team.
Dunedin lost 7-5 to the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
(note: I am aware that this picture is not of David Corrente or any Dunedin catcher, but it is a Dunedin hitter and, more importantly, it's the best catcher pic I've got...it's Lakeland's Adrian Casanova)
