Beijing Olympics want You, translator...

just check out this english version of their call for volunteers: Since the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games need more volunteers for translation services, the organizers have decided to increase the number of such volunteers. High learning institutions, government agencies and enterprises where foreign languages are frequently used and translators are numerous have been targeted to boost the supply of competent volunteers, according to a meeting of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and Beijing Olympic Volunteer Work Coordination Group on Saturday. The organizers intend to enroll another 4,000 voluntary translators covering 56 foreign languages to serve in VIP escort, sport team liaison, sport organization, media technical support, anti-doping and other areas. The Beijing Olympic Games will need 70,000 Games-time volunteers and the Paralympic Games another 30,000. The specialized volunteers, including translators, to offer support for VIP escort, translation, vehicle driving, media operations, sport organization, medical service, sport displays, awarding-ceremonies, accommodation and security check-up are expected to account for half of the Games-time volunteers. Beijing has been designated as a major source of specialized volunteers. ***having spent a few days eating in Beijing, the SG can safely predict the 2008 Olympics will be food fantastic.
